VISA INFORMATION

Visitors to Tanzania from the Sultanate of Oman are strongly advised to get their visas from the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Muscat, before departure. It takes only three days to process normal visas. Referred visa takes minimum of two months. If you wish to apply for visa, complete and sign a visa application form which you can Download from the website. Your application form may be submitted by yourself or by your representative together with:

  • Your passport must have not less than 6 (six) months validity and at least two twin pages;
  • Two recent passport-sized photograph with white or blue back ground;
  • Photocopy of the bio-data page of the passport;
  • Evidence that he/she has sufficient funds to support himself or her self while in Tanzania
  • No objection letter from the sponsor for non-Omani

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Foreigners seeking to enter the United Republic of Tanzania should be in the possession of valid passports or any other travel document. The passport or any other travel document is to be presented to the Immigration Control Officer at any entry point, such as Border station, Airport or Harbour. The travel document must be presented along with one of the following:

  • A valid visa
  • A residence permit or
  • A pass

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The validity for the visa issued start from the date of issue, it is important to note that you must enter into Tanzania within one month from the date when visa was issued, after that the visa automatically became invalid and you will be required to apply and pay for the new visa. After entering the country, the visitor with a visa may then obtain from the Immigration Control Officer, a pass or any other authority to stay in the country.

WHO REQUIRES A VISA

All foreigners from no-Commonwealth countries are required to have a valid visa unless their countries have visa abolition agreement with Tanzania. Exceptions: Citizens of Commonwealth countries are not required to obtain visa, unless they are citizens of the United Kingdom, Canada, Nigeria, India, Pakistan or The Republic of South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. However, the list may change from time to time.

TYPES OF VISA

There are two types of visas issued at the Embassy of Tanzania in Muscat

Ordinary Visa

An Ordinary Visa is issued for the validity of three months from the date of issue valid for single entry . The cost of this visa is Oman Rials 20.000 000 . (Twenty Oman Rials only)

Business Visa

Foreigners/businessmen/investors who wish to travel to Tanzania for business purposes, are required to obtain a business visa (which is a single entry) with a validity of three months. The cost of this visa is Oman Rials 100.000 (one Hundled Oman Rials only)

Period for processing Visa

Visa applications will be processed within two working days

NB: Visitors who wish to get their visa on the same day may opt for an express service which is available by additional payment of 8 Rials (total of 28 Rials)

Referred Visa

A referred visa requires a permission of the Director of Immigration Services or the assistant Director of Immigration Services in Zanzibar. This type of a visa is required for the nationals of the following countries: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Chad, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Kazakhstan Republic, Kyrgyzstan Republic, Lebanon, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Senegal, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Somali land, Sierra Leone, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, UzbekistanYemen and Stateless persons or persons with refugee status. This list may change from time to time.

 

Decision to grant entry visa to Tanzania for Nationals of above countries is made at the Immigration Headquarters in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. However the application is forwarded by the Tanzanian Embassy in Muscat. Applicants are required to fill-in visa application form and attach two passport photos, photocopies of the first five pages of passport and invitation letters or introductory letters where applicable. The applicant is required to clearly state reason for entry to Tanzania, show his/her contacts in Tanzania and in Oman. It therefore takes two months or more for such applications to be processed.


When the decision is made in Dar es Salaam, the Embassy in Muscat will inform the applicant. If the decision is positive, the applicant is supposed to submit his/her original passport to the Embassy for issuing a visa sticker.

 

ONLINE VISA APPLICATION

You can now apply for an Online Visa to visit the United Republic of Tanzania (both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar). You are required to fill in the online form, make payment, and submit your application online. Your form will be internally reviewed and processed by the Immigration Department in Tanzania.

 

Applicants will be notified through their e-mails whether their applications have been accepted or rejected. They may also TRACK their application statuses through the online system. Applicants may as well be required to visit the nearest Tanzanian Embassies or Consular Offices for interviews.
